A fun-filled night is planned for the upcoming Easter weekend as three brave men have volunteered to have a hair-raising experience in order to raise funds for Alzheimer’s respite care in the county.

From 8:30 this Saturday, April 23 at the Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny, the shaving, dying and waxing will be punctuated with great spot prizes and followed by music from one of the North-West’s finest bands – the father-and-son band Remo.

Local man William ‘Popeye’ McKinney will sacrifice his beard and let the family rediscover a chin that hasn’t seen sunlight in over 25 years. The Silver Fox of Letterkenny Town Council’s street maintainence group – William’s brother John – will have his locks dyed an as-yet undisclosed colour and Alan ‘Wooly Legs’ Wiley will have his legs waxed. Alan’s sister, Linda Orr of Academy Hair and Beauty in Ballyraine, will be overseeing all matters hair-related and has promised to be gentle with the guys. Let’s hope there are no sibling scores to be settled!

Admission is €10 euro (including light refreshments) and all funds raised will be spent in the county to help the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland [Donegal Branch] reduce the waiting list of 20 families for their respite service and to support those families needing help in the future. Each week an average of three families in this county discover that a family member has Alzheimer’s or a related dementia.
