20 Year Celebrations: The Lifford/Clonleigh Resource Centre based in Croaghan Heights will be holding a fun day for all the community as part of their twenty year celebrations on Saturday 23rd June. Activities will run throughout the day starting at 12 noon and scheduled to finish at 5 pm. Highland radio presenter Pio McCann will broadcast his Saturday show live from the Centre between 12 and 2 pm. Included in the line-up will be a bar-be-que, marquee and community stalls, Fair Day games, raffles and the launch of the ABC Garden. Events will take place at the ABC Childcare Centre, the Astro Turf Pitch and with a marquee on site at the Resource Centre. Tickets for the dance are limited and are selling at 7 euro each, if interested in attending the dance please contact reception at the Centre by telephoning (074) 9141773 during office hours Monday to Friday inclusive.
Summer Excursion: The senior citizens of the parish went off on Bank Holiday Monday on their annual summer excursion. This year the group along with carers, nurses, helpers and committee members enjoyed their day trip to the Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran. A delicious four course meal greeted the group on arrival at the hotel with the afternoon spent dancing to the musical entertainment of “Telstar” who made the event suitable for all fans of musical tastes. The excursion is organised by the Lifford branch of Care of the Aged committee.
School Closures: From the middle of June, the four National Schools will officially close their doors for the Summer Holidays. It is now the ideal opportunity to thank the Principals and the teaching staff at Cloughfin National, Boyagh National, Lifford National and Murlog National Schools for their work and dedication during the past school term. there were wonderful celebrations held recently for the sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. The entire parish thank the respective teachers of sixth class and second class for their thorough preparation and interest with the children involved. Good wishes are extended to the pupils currently in sixth class as they move on to secondary education level colleges starting in September.
Pre School Booster Clinic: Lifford Health Center will offer a pre-school booster clinic on Monday 18th June between the hours of 2.30 and 5pm. Please note appointments are necessary for this clinic. This vaccine is offered to children from ages range 4 to 6 years who are starting Primary Schools in September 2012. Road Race/Fun Walk: The annual 5K Road Race and Fun Walk takes place at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 26th June. The 5K is in association with Lifford Athletic Club and is part of Donegal County Athletics Board Grand Prix event. The Fun Walk is part of the “Just Try It” Active Donegal Month which will commence as soon as the runners have set off. Race registration which costs 10 euro or £8 sterling will take place in the Family Resource Centre from 6 pm onwards. Prizes will be presented and light refreshments served after the race itself.
Country Playgroup: The Little Rascals Country Playgroup is situated on the outskirts of Castlefinn and is now enrolling for free pre-school places commencing in September 2012. They are offering all day childcare for children of pre-school ages. Quiz Night: Local GAA club Naomh Padraig Club will host their annual quiz night. The general knowledge quiz will take place on Thursday 14th June at 9.30 pm (sharp) in the Central Bar, Lifford. Each quiz team is to be made up of four members at a cost of 8 euro per team. Prizes will be rewarded to the winning team and everyone is very welcome to come along.
School Sports Day: Well done to all the pupils at Scoil Mhuire gan smal - Lifford National School who held their very own special olympics sports day. Teaching staff and pupils gathered within the school grounds at Townparks for an early morning call before making their way collectively to Strabane to get a once in a lifetime chance to see the Olympic Torch on its journey from Mount Olympics before returning back to London. The young pupils followed this with a welcome deserved hearty breakfast served back at the school. The day was rounded off by an enjoyable sports day held at Lifford Athletic Club track. A variety of races for all age ranges were held in glorious sunshine which helped make the event one to enjoy for the pupils and the spectators alike.
Summer Programme: Enrolment forms for this years summer programme are now available for the ABC Childcare Centre on the Letterkenny Road, Lifford. Places for this programme are limited and will be allocated on a first come first placed basis. The Summer Programme will run from Monday 2nd July to Friday 20th July inclusive from 10 am to 2 pm. Children for the summer programme must be aged 5 years and upwards. The programme will consist of several trips, fun days with inflatables, sports days, coaching workshops, arts and crafts workshops, dance workshops, pool competitions and much more still to be added. The cost per child is 25 euro per week with family rates of 25 euro for the first child and 5 euro for each additional child. Social Inclusion Project: To ensure that women are given a chance to be involved in the planning and decision making on their health and social care priorities, they engage with women attending the programmes and ensure that their needs are listened to and responded to. “Gathering Sessions” will then be organised for Summer 2012, where local women who have attended the programmes prioritise their issues of common concern on both sides of the border. after this a “Community Health Question Time” event will provide women with an opportunity to engage with key decision makers, commissioners and chief executives on the issues raised. The Lifford/Clonleigh Resource Centre, Croaghan Heights has run the following programmes until March 2012. Included were Confidence to Question, Minding Mammy, Caring for Carers, Home is where the Health is, Bringing up your children on your own, Because I’m worth it and Whats eating you?
Craft Fair: As part of their twenty year celebrations taking place on Saturday 23rd June the Lifford/Clonleigh Resource Centre are holding a Craft Fair in the marquee on their grounds at Croaghan Heights. Glass Jars: The Lifford Youth Group are asking local people within the community to please donate any unwanted glass jars to the Centre as soon as possible. The group are going to decorate and paint the glass jars which will be used for fundraising purposes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
