Freezing conditions did not hinder proud parents, teachers and athletes from coming to the Villa Rose in the Twin Towns for an evening of fantastic entertainment last Friday night.
The evening was one not unlike “Strictly Come Dancing” but with a novel twist where it was young people who took to the dance floor in a bid to raise funds for the Finn Valley Athletic Club and the state of the art 400 metre running track at Millbrae, Stranorlar.
The excellent new track came to fruition last year and has been a welcome addition to the athletic club where it is widely used by practising athletes.
The performers ranged in age from as young as 8 years old to early those in their early teens. All are active members of the athletic club.
Nine young glamorous couples in total danced the night away amongst which were Kate Carlin and Ryan Galvin, Aine Wilkinson and Tristan Maguire, Lauren Callaghan and Shaun Lyons, Olivia Reid and Pauric McKelvey, Katlyn Maguire and Ethan Clancy, Siofra Maguire and Emer Lyons, Niamh Irwin and Shea Mc Menamin, Abigail Temple Asokuh and Oisin Thompson and Chloe Maguire and Christian Irwin.
All the couples looked absolutely stunning, coming to the fore dressed in an array of magnificent colours and styles. Each danced their set with ease and ability after a number of long weeks in training under the expert eye of their peers. Glitz and glamour was the order of the day and those who took to the stage certainly did not disappoint and the mood was reflected by the audience who dressed in style for the much anticipated event.
Each couple had to perform a given set of dances and each dance was followed by a thundering round of applause from the appreciative crowds who had come out to support their local event.
The MC for the evening was well known local athlete Mark Connolly. He complimented the dancers for their excellent show and told those present that everyone who had taken part had worked extremely hard to perform at the level they had for the event.
He explained that everyone who had contributed and organised the night had put an enormous amount of work and time into the wonderful evening in aid of a very worthy cause.
