The late Pearl Anderson
The death occurred recently of Pearl Anderson, Cavangarden, Ballyshannon.
Pearl passed away after a long illness, at the age of 84.
She was kindly cared for at Aras Mhic Shiubhne Nursing Home, Laghey until her passing.
Predeceased by her husband Jim and son Oswald, she is survived by her remaining sons George, Ian, Norman, Howard, Nigel, Adrian and Gordon, her daughters Mary and Isobel (USA), sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchild. Also, her sister-in-law Kathleen and a large circle of relatives and friends.
The World Day of Prayer
The World Day of Prayer takes place in St. Anne’s Church on Friday 7th March at 8 pm. Guest speaker is Jiska Roessen from the Old Church Vets. All welcome.
Best of luck to our U12 boys & girls this Saturday in Regional Finals in Sligo IT. U12 girls take on Donegal Town at 12.30pm and U12 boys play Sligo Warriors at 3.30pm. This is the first year for the U12 league which has been a great success so we wish all our boys & girls the very best of luck and hope to see plenty of support there on the day.
Our U14 girls are back in the regional final on Sunday at 2 pm again in Sligo IT. The girls will be looking to hold on to their title when they take on Blaze, Letterkenny.
Well done to our U14 boys and U16 girls who both played in the semi-finals last Sunday in Letterkenny, both teams played well and were unfortunate not to proceed to finals.
Aodh Ruadh club membership 2014
Club membership for 2014 is now due and all club members are asked to submit their registration form and fee at their earliest convenience. We will be having a number of open registration sessions throughout March to facilitate members. The first session takes place this Thursday, 6th March from 7.30pm to 9pm in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh. Membership can also be paid to Mary Matthews at Shannon’s Corner.
A few points to note.
· In order to be entitled to the rights of a full member, a person must have their fees paid to the club on a date before March 31st and be registered by the club on the online system in order to have a vote in the upcoming membership year.
· Only fully registered players on the GAA online registration system are allowed to take the field for the club. If your name is not in this system you are ineligible. That has repercussions in terms of insurance cover for injuries.
· Registration is an important component in meeting the running costs of the club.
· Paid up members will receive preference for tickets to Donegal’s championship matches
· Only fully paid up members will be eligible for the annual draw for tickets to the football and hurling All Ireland finals.
· Club membership will be displayed in Aras Aoidh Ruaidh.
Membership rates are as follows: Adult, €40; Adult Player (Includes insurance cover for the year), €60; Youth (Born 1996-2003 inclusive): €25; Youth (Born 2004-2014 inclusive): €15. This year we also have family packages which are priced as follows: Two adults and all children under 18: €120; One adult and all children under 18: €100 The club requires a registration form with each fee. Registration forms can be downloaded from aodhruadh.org.
Aodh Ruadh Bingo
The €800 monster jackpot was divided four ways at last week’s monster bingo, while our game winners included Helen Coughlin, JJ McGarrigle and Marie Granaghan. Bingo returns to the Abbey Centre this Friday at 9pm. Full books €10, Half books €5.

There was no winner of the €7,900 Aodh Ruadh Lotto jackpot last Sunday. The numbers drawn were 5, 7, 8, 15, 17 and 18. In the lucky dip €20 each went to: Carmel Gallagher; Nora Dolan, Ballyshannon; Maureen Keenaghan, Ballyshannon; Irvine Kerrigan, Leggs, Belleek; and Ryan, Ben and Joey Daly, The Knather, Ballyshannon. Midterm Break: Welcome back to all staff and students fresh from Midterm Break- we trust that you enjoyed the break and are ready to face another half term in school.
Transition Year- PIG GIG: Students and Year Heads in Transition Year continue to make learning fun. They are currently organising a Pig Gig which will take place in Dorrian’s Hotel, Ballyshannon on Friday 7th March. ‘The Pig Jig’ promises to be a wonderful night of delicious food, fantastic entertainment and great craic for all. There will be a buffet including slow roast pork on the spit, a novelty auction, dancing with Beez Neez, trad music, traditional dancing, a raffle and much more.
Two spit-roast pigs will be cooked in Dorrian’s and served up as part of a buffet including a number of side-salads. MC Sean Perry will add extra flavour to proceedings by hosting the Novelty Auction with items and services volunteered by family and friends of Transition Year. Music and Dancing with Beez Neez will continue late into the night and early morning. Irish Traditional Dancing will entertain with Clodagh Roper, CCBS past pupil and Irish and World Champion Dancer set the inspire the community of Colaiste Cholmcille. The TY Trad Band will provide music in the Front Lounge. Tickets are on sale now at a cost of €10 per person. Please contact the school for more details. This promises to be a great night with entertainment and bargains in the auction, we would like to encourage you to come along and support the event. All monies raise go to the TY funds.
English class: Cyclone Repertory Theatre will visit CCBS on Friday, March 14th with their exam-focused productions of ‘Othello’ for Fifth Year Higher Level English students, and ‘Romeo and Juliet’ for Third Year Higher Level English students. The students and teachers are looking forward to this enlightening event.
Lent: First year students attended Ash Wednesday Mass to celebrate the beginning of lent with their RE teachers. Thank you to local parish priests for their continued support in this area. We would like to mention the Diocesan Adviser for Religious Education who visits the school on a regular basis with pearls of wisdom, Sr Susan.
Mocks: Third and Leaving Certificate students are settling back to normal class after their mocks. Results will be posted as soon as possible.
