The search for Ireland’s most loveable tree is on - National Tree Huggers 2014 Contest.
What does a popular hotelier, an All-Ireland football medalist, a former supermodel, an internationally renowned cook and the ‘King’ of Tory Island have in common? They have all entered Just Forests search for Ireland’s most loveable tree - the National Tree Huggers 2014 Contest.
The inagural National Tree Huggers Contest was launched on the John Murray Show on RTE Radio 1 on Wednesday 1st October. Fifteen people (high-profilers in their own career/sectors) will vie for the votes of the nation.
The contest is not about the tallest, broadest, oldest or most beautiful tree.
“It is all about what that particular tree means to the person entering the contest,” according to contest organisers, Tom Roche of Just Forests the Offaly based development education (DE) charity and forest campaigning group.
Each participant was asked to select a tree that has a special place in their heart and write a short piece telling us what the significance of that is.
The tree/story with the most votes will be Ireland’s nomination in the European Tree of the Year 2015 Contest.
Just Forests is looking for a major sponsor to come on board - if your company is interested in sponsoring this fun event and fund raiser please contact Tom Roche on 086 8049389.
