Donegal Town is stepping into Christmas in some style and Thursday night’s switching-on of the town’s Christmas lights was a wonderful night of festive celebration.
Big crowds - young and not so young - gathered around the Diamond as Santa made a welcome appearance along with his elves and reindeer.
There was a wonderful festive atmosphere and great credit must go to everyone on the Christmas lights committee who helped organise a brilliant night of Christmas fun.
Members of An Garda Síochana and the Fire Service were there to help out while the Mayor, Pauric Kennedy welcomed everyone along and thanked the local businesses and everyone who have played their part in helping to ensure the town looks so well again this Christmas.

He offered a special mention for local retired businessman Ernan McGettigan for his wonderful input again this year. And in a lovely gesture, Ernan’s wife Mary was invited to accompany Santa in performing the official switching on of the Christmas lights.
A special mention too for Angel Gabriel (aka Revd John) who was there to invite everyone along to the Live Crib at the Methodist Church this Saturday and Sunday.
