Donegal's first Ulster title of 1972 - like a Phoenix from the Flame

Peter Campbell speaks to team manager Brian McEniff to mark Donegal's great breakthrough in winning their first Ulster SFC 50 years ago this weekend and details on a player-by-player basis those who helped make the achievement possible

Enda Bonner (Dungloe)
The year before 1972, Enda Bonner was in control of the corner-back jersey after giving a great performance against Down in Newry. But then Donal Monaghan came into form in 1972 and Enda found it difficult to get back in the team. He was based away from home and that was an issue.

Enda did play in the All-Ireland semi-final that year against Offaly as a substitute. He came through the college system under Joe Lennon in Gormanston and also a year in St Eunan's, Letterkenny. He was a good reader of the game and also had a safe pair of hands. Injury caused him to lose a bit of fitness but he played quite a bit with Dungloe. He went on to give Donegal great service off the field as their accountant, looking after the GAA finances up to this day. And he remains a great supporter of Donegal.
