Donegal's first Ulster title of 1972 - like a Phoenix from the Flame

Peter Campbell speaks to team manager Brian McEniff to mark Donegal's great breakthrough in winning their first Ulster SFC 50 years ago this weekend and details on a player-by-player basis those who helped make the achievement possible

Daniel McGeehan (Naomh Conaill)
Daniel was probably the unluckiest man in 1972 as he was in goals for the first two games but then got sent off in a league game in Magheragallon against Gaoth Dobhair along with Anton Carroll. It was a harsh penalty to miss the Ulster final as he had been the man in possession. He had very good hands and was very cool.

He was also the 'keeper in 1971. Went to work in Buncrana for Donegal Co Council and played his football up there for many years. In more recent years after retirement, he returned to live in Naomh Conaill area and has given great service to the club including a period as chairman. A lovely fella, he will be one of the first you will encounter when you go to a game in Glenties any Sunday.
