Donegal's first Ulster title of 1972 - like a Phoenix from the Flame

Peter Campbell speaks to team manager Brian McEniff to mark Donegal's great breakthrough in winning their first Ulster SFC 50 years ago this weekend and details on a player-by-player basis those who helped make the achievement possible

Just like John Hannigan, I brought Mickey Griffin back into the Donegal squad again in 1972 and he was unfortunate not to get a run. Mickey had a great Dublin accent and was part of the Donegal squad throughout the 1960s. During that time he played for Ulster in the Railway Cup and in the two Ulster finals of 1963 and 1966.

He was a mad driver as I found out one night in Dublin when I got a lift from him on a motorbike. He just took flight. He was playing with O'Toole's at that time and he later transferred to Round Towers, but always kept his allegiance to Donegal. He was down in the Great Northern for the reunion in 2014 and still lives in Dublin.
