Catching the eye: Players to watch in this year’s Football Championships

With county players not playing for spells of the All-County Football League, there were a number of stand-out players who have yet to make their senior inter-county bow that will be looking to take their good form into the football championships in the coming weeks

Malin might’ve missed out on silverware in pretty heartbreaking fashion last Sunday when they were pipped at the post by Downings in the Division 2 final, but that shouldn’t take from the fact they were the most impressive side in the regulation season.
Eleven wins from 13 outings in Michael Byrne’s first year in charge was an impressive feat from the Connolly Park club, who have a livewire forwards like Christy and Brendan Fildara McLaughlin, as well as Josh Conlon, a skillful player comfortable on either foot. Conlon’s ball-carrying abilities and eye for a score were a constant for Malin this term and if they can continue the bulk of the form they have shown already this year, will be in the shake-up in the Donegal IFC.
