Catching the eye: Players to watch in this year’s Football Championships

With county players not playing for spells of the All-County Football League, there were a number of stand-out players who have yet to make their senior inter-county bow that will be looking to take their good form into the football championships in the coming weeks

Eric Carr (Naomh Columba)
With the Carr background, it wasn’t any great surprise that Eric Carr’s star continues to shine brightly in south-west Donegal. Son of former Donegal player, Seamus, and a cousin of Dublin manager, Dessie Farrell, Carr has been part of Donegal squads from U-16 upwards and this year was part of Gary Duffy’s U-20 team. Well-built physically, Carr is a very versatile player who can play anywhere from half-back to half-forward. With his club team he has been a free-scoring half-back, notching a number of goals this year.
Even though still young, he has established himself as one of the main players for Naomh Columba, who will be challenging for that elusive Intermediate title again this year. Carr has to be in the thoughts of any new Donegal manager and he will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow clubman Aaron Doherty, to keep up that tradition of producing county players in the Naomh Columba area.
