William J Doherty, Engineer and Antiquarian - Castletown
Fahan Community Development Partnership CLG invites you for a talk in the renovated barn at Saint Mura's, Castletown, by well-known artist John McCarron on the life of William J Doherty.
William J Doherty was born in 1834 and was local to the area. He began his career during the construction of the Lough Swilly Railway, and worked his way up to become viewed as one of the most talented engineers in the British Isles.
He also produced numerous documents on the history of Inishowen and Donegal.
The present owners of the farm have renovated the barn with the assistance of a grant from the Heritage Council, in a way that is believed it have been designed by William Doherty.
Running in the evening, the event is open from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
