Leaving Cert celebrations in Letterkenny’s Errigal College

Many of the students from Errigal College in Lettekenny got over 500 points in their Leaving Cert and their bright futures include studying law, teaching, engineering and so much more

There were scenes of jubilation and excitement in Errigal College on Friday morning as students who had just received their Leaving Cert results gathered at the school to celebrate and congratulate each other.

Their hard work over the last few years was rewarded with exceptionally good Leaving Cert results. Many of them got over 500 points and their bright futures include studying law, teaching, engineering and so much more.

Deputy Principal Ms Deirdre Markham was beaming: “We were delighted to take this opportunity to celebrate with our Leaving Cert students. Getting together gave them the chance to celebrate each others’ achievements and reconnect with their classmates and proud Errigal staff. Care is at the core of everything we do in Errigal College, and it doesn’t end with a set of results; we will be available to students in the coming days for advice and guidance and look forward to seeing what their futures hold.”

Today’s results are all the more impressive because this year’s cohort of students hadn’t sat State Exams before. They didn’t get to sit their Junior Cert exams due to Covid, and were faced with multiple disruptions to their school life through the pandemic. This makes their achievements all the sweeter”

Errigal College Principal Mr Danny McFadden spoke of his pride in this year’s results. “On behalf of all the staff in Errigal College, I want to congratulate our Leaving Cert students this year. Their excellent results are testament to the hard work and dedication of them and their teachers.

“Their resilience in the face of the pandemic gave them that extra boost leading to this year’s fantastic results! Care is at the core of everything we do in Errigal College, and it doesn’t end with the Leaving Cert. Our students know they can always get references and advice as they take the next steps in life. We’ll always be here for them. We’re so proud of them!"
