The clinic, which will now employ 30 staff, is equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic imaging technology, offering enhanced care to the local community. Cllr Ciarán Brogan officially opened the new clinic, praising the addition of this vital service to the area.
Commenting on the opening, Siobhan Southwell, Director of Operations for Affidea Ireland said "This is our fifth Minor Injuries and Illnesses unit, following our first clinic in Cork in 2017, with a total of 75,000 patients visiting our clinics in the past year alone. Since opening in Letterkenny in 2016, we’ve treated an average of 20,000 patients annually, providing essential services that previously required patients to travel long distances."
Barry Downes, CEO of Affidea Ireland and UK, further commented: “This clinic reflects our ongoing commitment to expanding access to high-quality healthcare services across the island of Ireland. We look forward to continuing our work with the HSE and are excited to announce a new clinic opening in Portlaoise this March.”
The new Minor Injuries and Illnesses Clinic will operate five days a week, from 10am to 6pm, treating a range of minor injuries and ailments traditionally requiring emergency department visits. The clinic features several treatment bays and advanced diagnostic equipment, including MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, and DEXA, ensuring rapid diagnosis and care. Average wait times will be under 45 minutes.
The clinic is open to all, treating patients from age one and up. Patients with Garda Medical Aid or Prisoner Officer Insurance will benefit from direct settlement, and members of other private health insurance providers can reclaim some treatment costs by contacting their insurer directly.
Affidea operates four other Minor Injuries Units across Ireland, including two in Dublin and one in Cork. This new clinic in Letterkenny is set to ease pressure on the local emergency department and further improve patient access to urgent care.
Affidea Ireland is one of the leading providers of diagnostic imaging, outpatient services, and day case surgery in Ireland, operating 19 clinical facilities and employing over 400 professionals who serve more than 350,000 patients annually.
