The Elevate55 project provides a social group for young people with Autism, entitled Our Group, with members working hard over the last number of months to create a short film, which they hope will help the voices of young people be heard better when we are talking about issues they may experience in society.

This youth-led project was created using the small wins initiative from the Civic Labs for Young People (CLYP) project.

Youth Worker Pauric Bell spoke of his pride in the work the young people have put in to make this project a reality and how he hopes this film can help benefit the life’s of so many more young people with autism: “By offering these young people the correct environment to work in we have been able to watch them flourish and create this film we have seen today. I don’t know if the young people have realised the potential impact this will have on young people growing up with autism in Donegal.”

Donegal Youth Service have always put the voice of the young person at the forefront of the work they do and this is just another example of this. One particular participant of the project said: “It was great to be able to tell my own story and experiences as sometimes I feel people don’t ask me and always talk about things with my parents instead”

Our Group is a social group for young people with autism, and it meets weekly on a Monday evening from 6 – 8pm in Donegal Youth Service 16-18 Port Road, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, F92 N2KC. For more information, contact Pauric Bell on 074 9129630 or via email pauric.bell@donegalyouthservice.ie.
