Introducing the Donegal Sports Star Awards 1980 winners 40 years on one-by-one

The Donegal Sports Star Committee caught up on the 40-year anniversary presentations on Monday night in Letterkenny, having sat out two years during the pandemic, and re-introduced the 1980 and 1981 winners - these are the stories of the 1980 winners

Margaret McFadden (Handball & Sports Personality of the Year)
Margaret actually picked up two awards in 1980, also receiving the Sports Personality of the Year. She started playing handball at 10 years of age under the legendary John Kelly in Falcarragh and from her early teens success began to happen on the national stage. She first won a Donegal Sports Star Handball Award in 1978 and two years later she was back again after winning an All-Ireland Singles title in Croke Park. That was a stunning success as her opponent Elizabeth Hall from Oldtown Dublin hadn’t been beaten in five years. She also won a Tailteann Games Gold medal that year among other successes.
