In Pictures: A fitting concert to remember and celebrate Billy Finn

The Billy Finn Sessions took place in the Abbey Arts Centre in Ballyshannon

A concert to honour the memory of renowned master uilleann piper Billy Finn took place in the Abbey Arts Centre, Ballyshannon.

Bar a break during Covid-19 restrictions this has been an annual event which is part of the Donegal Bay and Bluestacks Festival.

The Billy Finn Sessions featured a range of musicians reflecting the multi-talented Billy and his great love for music.

A native of Kilkenny, Billy came to Ballyshannon in the early 1970s where he began his teaching career in Ballyshannon Vocational School. He taught there until Coláiste Cholmcille opened in 2000, where he remained until his retirement in 2008.

Through his role as a dedicated and highly respected educator and his involvement in many local activities, Billy was very much part of the fabric of the community in his adopted town.

The Billy Finn Sessions is testament to his lasting impact on the community of Ballyshannon.
