Bundoran Community Centre hosted a launch night for the Bundoran 10 running and walking event. Bundoran 10 main 10-mile running and walking event takes place on Saturday, March 2, while a 5K event takes place the previous evening.
This year's benefiting charities are Liquid Therapy, the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland, Bundoran RNLI and Tir Chonaill Athletic Club.
Speaking at the launch event which took place on Friday evening in Bundoran Community Centre, race director Canice Nicholas said: "There are so many worthy charities in the area and it’s always a difficult choice to narrow them down.
"We are indebted to everyone who decides to take part in the Bundoran 10 each year who help to raise so much money for local charities and community groups. The event is at around 75% capacity so I would encourage anyone who is thinking about taking part to sign up soon before all spaces are filled up."
Tom Losey of Liquid Therapy said: "As a small charity in the area we are delighted to have been selected by the Bundoran 10 to be one of their charity and community partners for this year’s event.
"The donation will enable us to continue removing the barriers to participation for those living with an additional need. It will also support us in getting specialised equipment."
Bundoran RNLI’s Lifeboat Operations Manager Daimon Fergus who spoke on behalf of the charity that saves lives at sea added that the Bundoran 10 event is one that the volunteer crew look forward to each year – some will run it while others are more than happy to act as stewards to ensure that the event goes off without a hitch.
"We are thankful to the committee for having us back," he said.
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland Fundraising Manager Nikki Keegan said: "We are thrilled to be one of the beneficiaries of the Bundoran 10 and are hugely appreciative of the support. Any funding raised will go towards funding our vital services and supports in the Donegal region."
Eamon Harvey of Tir Chonaill Athletic Club said: "On behalf of Tir Chonaill AC I wish to thank the Bundoran 10 committee for the inclusion as one of the events 2024 benefiting charities.
"As indicated earlier by Race Director, Canice Nicholas, local and national charities have received support from the event to the tune of €150,000 since the race’s inception 12 years ago.
"Tir Chonaill AC is an inclusive athletics club in South/South West Donegal, with a current membership of over 400 and catering for athletes from Juvenile to Masters across all athletic disciplines. The support from the Bundoran 10 is very much appreciated and will benefit our club in so many ways including coaching, purchasing equipment and upgrading facilities.
"Tir Chonaill will again support via a large club entry and assist with organisation, officiating on the day and general support."
