Supportive community spirit and festive celebrations combined to ensure a wonderfully memorable evening for all who attended the arrival of Santa in Mountcharles and contributed generously to a fundraiser for the RNLI in memory of two of the village's citizens. In a fundraising event which took place on Sunday, December 22, Santa and Mrs Claus were paraded through Mountcharles, led by St Peter’s Band. There was a generously supported fundraising raffle, with proceeds to the RNLI in memory of Shaun and Paul Chapman who lost their lives in a tragedy 25 years ago.
A spokesperson for the team at Salthill Cabin took to social media the following day to express their gratitude, saying; “A massive thank you to everyone involved in last night's fundraiser for RNLI and the anniversary of Shaun and Paul Chapman.
“Thank you to everyone who donated for the hampers - Maloney's Shop in Ardara, DT Fitness, Herron Autos, Ashtree Garden Centre, Blas, The Verve, McGroarty’s Electrical, Dunlevys Spar, Topline McGuiness, Christina Irwin, Karen Laffin, and all other people who generously donated.
“A massive thank you to PJ Kelly for driving the lorry and to Atlantic Dawn for the use of their lorry.
“Thank you to Mountcharles Committee for all their help and support and also St Peter’s Band for coming out and leading the lorry through the village.
“And finally a massive thank you to our community for all their help and support you have shown us. “As a village we have raised over €5,000 for the RNLI.
“Happy Christmas to everyone and have a wonderful New Year!”
