It was one of around 1,000 such events taking place globally on Sunday, May 18. The event is linked to the Movember movement which raises money and awareness to support men's health, with a focus on prostate cancer and mental wellbeing.

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride was founded by Mark Hawwa in Sydney, Australia, in 2012. He was inspired by a photo of Don Draper from the TV show Mad Men riding a classic bike while wearing a suit. Mark's idea was to create a more positive view of bikers while helping to improve men's health.

The positivity behind the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride was to be felt in abundance on the Diamond in Donegal Town as bikers from near and far gathered for the event. Old friends and new came together in the glorious sunshine, donning the finest tweeds and looking very much the part of distinguished gentlemen - and ladies.

Having taken part in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in Belfast, Killybegs man Joseph McCloskey felt that this was something that would work well in Donegal. Supported by his wife Collette, he set about organising the local run which is now in its fourth year. The couple made a wonderful sight in their bike and sidecar, leading the run out towards Lough Eske. They were joined by their son Derek.

Another family affair, Howard Bustard from Donegal Town was joined by his son Derek who previously took part in the run in Bristol in the UK, and Sydney, Australia. Derek now lives in Portadown, and he and Howard were taking part in the Donegal Town run for the second time with lots of support from their family.

Shortly after 1pm, the group set off from the Diamond, heading for Harvey's Point, then to Salthill Cabin at Mountcharles Pier, and back to Donegal Town.

Close to €2,000 has been raised to date with the Donegal Town event, with donations still open by clicking here
