In pictures: Schools show support for Burt hurlers with a ‘Colour Day!’

On Saturday, the Burt men’s hurlers face Lavey in the Ulster Junior Hurling Championship Final and the two local National Schools – St Mura’s and St Aengus’ came out to show their ‘true colours’ today!

In a wonderful show of community spirit, the Tooban and Bridgend schools held a ‘Burt Colours Day’, with pupils and staff proudly wearing blue and yellow — the famous Hibernian colours (even if only for one day for some!).

A sea of colour and loud support as pupils, staff and parents were vocal in calling for support at Saturday’s final in Celtic Park, Derry.

Burt Treasurer Darren Farnan had nothing but praise for the two schools.

‘A big thank you to the staff and pupils of both schools for getting behind the team and helping build excitement ahead of the biggest day of the year for CLG Beart. We have a huge number of pupils from both schools in our underage teams and it’s indeed great to see them showing enthusiasm and support, but also calling on the parish to turn up at Celtic Park and cheer on the team.

‘It will be a tough test against a very good Lavey side but our boys have been putting in the work throughout the season and will be giving it all.’

Club chairman Liam Gallagher also endorsed Darren’s sentiments, adding ‘Let’s all come out and support the Burt lads on Saturday afternoon as they aim to bring Ulster silverware home for the third time in the club’s history!

The Ulster Junior Hurling Championship final between Burt and Lavey takes place in Celtic Park, Derry, at 1.30pm.
