In Pictures: Phenomenal camaraderie as hundreds attend Narin New Year's Day swim

An estimated 600 people gathered on the beach, with around 250 taking to the waves

Narin Strand was a hive of activity as an estimated 600 people gathered for the annual New Year’s Day swim. Click on the arrows to see Siobhan McNamara's photos:

Around 250 took to the water at 3pm, with hundreds more attending to support those taking part and to soak up the fantastic atmosphere of camaraderie and community spirit. 

Among those supporting the swimmers was Cllr Brian Carr (SF) who told Donegal Live: “It is great to see such an incredible turnout of people here today, taking part in the swim and supporting the three local charities - Downstrands Family Counselling Service, Narin Portnoo Rosbeg Community Co-op and Rosbeg and Downstrands Care of the Aged.

“Well done to everyone involved, the swimmers, the volunteers, those collecting for the charities, and all the supporters.”

Also providing a very meaningful support presence was the crew from Killybegs Coastguard, with a number of crew members taking to the water along with the swimmers while others kept a watchful eye from the shore
