The proceeds from the Mayor’s Ball held in the Abbey Hotel in October were divided between Donegal Community Hospital and Donegal Hospice. With work to upgrade facilities at the HSE-owned hospital now in its final phase, this money will allow the hospital to further enhance the facilities for patients and their visitors.
Director of Nursing Susan Rose told Donegal Live that the money at the Mayor’s Ball will be used for a particularly special project.

“At the minute we are in the final phase of the refurbishment.
“The patient - visitor dining room has turned out beautifully, better than we expected. And the funds that we are receiving at the minute are planned to go towards a garden at the front of the building so that the patients will have access to the outside on a good day.
“On behalf of all the staff of Donegal Community Hospital and the patients who come and go to it, I would like to say thanks to everyone who has contributed to this fundraising event and all the fundraising events that we have had in the last year.”
Mayor Anna said: “I want to thank everybody who sponsored, donated, bought tickets, came to the ball and really got behind a lovely community event last October.”
She visited Donegal Community Hospital on Thursday, March 19 to hand over the funds.
“This is more than a cheque, it is a community movement,” she said. “This cheque wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community around me.
“I am very honoured to come here as your mayor to present a cheque for €17,140.”
The Mayor’s Charities fund is still open and receiving donations.

Anna said: “Anyone who is having parties or wanting to do something in the community, this is a shining example of keeping care and keeping the community hospital to the standard that the patients deserve, so we are over the moon with the renovations.”
Donegal Community Hospital provides palliative care, respite care, convalescence, rehabilitation and continuing care for patients. It is deeply valued in the wider Donegal Town area for its respectful, friendly and caring atmosphere, allowing patients to receive the care and support they need within their own community.
