In pictures: Scoil Aodh Rua agus Nuala's wonderful Christmas Carol Service

From the opening candlelit procession to the final congregational rendition of ‘Silent Night’, this was a fitting celebration of the first Christmas

Packed to the rafters was how to describe St. Patrick’s Church for the annual Scoil Aodh Rua agus Nuala Christmas Carol Service - it was a wonderful night of music, song, dance and storytelling.

Through skilful narration, the audience was transported back in time to the marketplace in Bethlehem where busy street traders and journeyers, in traditional costume added vibrancy and gusto to the performance. Spirited donkeys led Mary and Joseph safely to Bethlehem, where they sought shelter from exhausted innkeepers. A beautiful choir of angels appeared before the shepherds, carrying the good news of Jesus’ birth. Kings in majestic robes delivered a glorious rendition of ‘We Three Kings’, alongside their gifts. The Drummer Boy added simplicity, while the angels brought purity to the show.

The audience was captivated by the traditional hymns, ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ and more modern carols including ‘Jog Along Little Donkey’, ‘Just a Little Bit of Room’ and ‘Precious Baby’ from both soloists and choir. A beautifully delivered version of ‘The True Meaning of Christmas’ afforded an opportunity for pause and quiet reflection, an important message in these busy times. School Principal Ms Martine Doherty, marked her first Carol Service with a heartfelt wish for a peaceful Christmas for all in our school community. Mary and Joseph’s performance of ‘Do you Hear what I Hear?’ reflected their gratitude at the safe arrival of Baby Jesus while a final blessing from Fr. Gillespie ended this fitting tribute.

Thanks to all of the children and staff in Scoil Aodh Rua agus Nuala and especially Niamh Currid for a truly memorable and heart-warming beginning to Christmas celebrations.
