The Moville Heritage Experience

There are six separate events taking place on Saturday, August 24 as part of the Moville Heritage Experience
Participants are welcome to join up to three of these guided events. Since numbers are strictly limited, participants are asked to register for each walk separately on Eventbrite.ie
Those attending are asked to adhere to the rendezvous points rather than driving to the locations. A shuttle bus will be provided.
Participants are asked to bring water bottles, wear suitable footwear, and dress for the weather that is forecast.

Experience I - Reading the Historic Landscape
10am to 12 pm, meeting at St Eugene’s Hall, James Street, Moville, F93 A6YR
Open to all ages and backgrounds, this is an easy grade downhill walk and will be guided at a gentle pace. Distance approximately 2km.This is a unique opportunity to read the historic landscape from Cooley Cross to historic Moville and beyond, through the eyes of the eminent Archaeologist and Medieval Historian, Dr Brian Lacey.
Experience II - A Deep Dive
10am to 12 pm, meeting at St Eugene’s Hall, James Street, Moville, F93 A6YR at 9.45am
Dive deep into the natural and cultural heritage of this special coastal town with this interactive walk and talk led by Dr Liam Campbell, Cultural Heritage Expert and Author of 'Room for the River'; and Dr Trish Murphy, Zoologist and Biodiversity Expert - among the country's foremost heritage specialists.

Experience III - Townscape: Structures that Connect
12.30pm - 2.30pm meeting at St Eugene’s Hall, James Street, Moville, F93 A6YR at 12.15
Open to all ages and backgrounds, we'll be taking an easy grade walk covering approximately 2km.
Led by Mary Kerrigan, Place-maker Architect with Justin McAteer, Structural Engineer in conservation, this is a unique opportunity to get under the skin of the townscape of this picturesque planned Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian historic town. Leaving from the Hall we'll explore Moville's splendid townscape heritage wrapping up at Carrickarory Pier. Discover the structures, some hidden in plain sight, that connect Moville's people, places and public spaces brilliantly.
Experience IV - Reading the Waterscape
12.30pm to 2.30pm meeting at St Eugene’s Hall, James Street, Moville, F93 A6YR by 12.15pm for the 12.30pm shuttle bus departure to the start point. To avoid congestion, please do not park at Lafferty's Lane car park.
This is an easy grade walk covering approximately 2km.
See Moville's spectacular waterscape through the lenses of cultural heritage, archaeology and medieval history. Open to all ages and backgrounds, learn about this special coastal town's watery heritage during this interactive easy grade walk and talk led by two of the country's foremost historians and heritage experts Dr Liam Campbell, Cultural Heritage Expert and Author of 'Room for the River: The Foyle River Catchment Landscape' with Dr Brian Lacey, Archaeologist and Medieval Historian. Accompanied by two of Ireland's heritage giants, this is a golden opportunity to learn to read deeply the waterscape of Moville.
Experience V - Hidden in Plain Sight
3.30pm to 5.30pm meeting at St Eugene’s Hall, James Street, Moville, F93 A6YR
Rendezvous at St Eugene's Hall for a leisurely interactive walk and talk along the Moville water's edge. This is an easy grade walk covering approximately 2km.
Open to all ages and backgrounds, this gently paced, easy grade walking experience is a unique opportunity to discover the extent of the close relationships and biodiversity within, and between, picturesque Moville's coastal structures and its natural heritage habitats and their ecology.
Led by Justin McAteer, Structural Engineer in Conservation; with Dr Trish Murphy, Zoologist and Biodiversity Expert, this experience reveals a place teeming with ecology and biodiversity, tucked away in the structural nooks and crannies of all kinds of built and natural heritage.
Experience VI - Jewels and Gems
3.30pm to 5.30pm meeting at St Eugene’s Hall, James Street, Moville, F93 A6YR at 3.15pm.
Open to all ages and backgrounds participants will wind their way from Glenburnie via the Moville shore path, then meander through Moville's historic core as far as McCauley's Mill.
Led by Mary Kerrigan, MRIAI, Conservation Architect this promises to be an engaging, eye opening experience, with a difference. Discover 18th, 19th and 20th century architectural jewels and gems that make this picturesque planned town a stand out place among the litany of Ireland's coastal towns.
