Watch: 12 neglected donkeys arrive at the care of Donegal Donkey Sanctuary

The donkeys were all rescued in one day, with many arriving with overgrown hooves and matted coats

Donegal Donkey Sanctuary has set up an emergency fundraiser after 12 donkeys were rescued from neglect.

The donkeys were all rescued in one day, with many arriving with overgrown hooves and matted coats.

Donegal Donkey Sanctuary in Raphoe said the rescue puts their numbers at unprecedented levels and they have now set up a GoFundMe to support their care, available through this link.

Donegal Donkey Sanctuary shared: “12 weary souls arriving to safety and warm beds. Heartbreaking to see their overgrown hooves and bedraggled coats.

“Lots of one year old babies clinging to their mums who could potentially be pregnant again as they were running with several stallions.
