Mayor of Donegal Town Pauric Kennedy is well known locally as a tireless community worker who is always the first to arrive and the last to leave if there is work to be done.
But this time he has really excelled himself, and is currently en route to the Polish - Ukrainian border in a lorry full of humanitarian aid.
The goods have been gathered in Donegal with many donations coming in from further afield. There were very strict guidelines in place as to how the goods had to be packed and transported. A Trojan effort by members of the community who gathered in the St John Bosco Centre in Donegal Town ensured that the many generous donations were loaded onto pallets and are now being brought to where they are most needed.
Mr Kennedy posted on Facebook overnight that he and lorry driver Gerald Quinn of G Quinn Transport had just come off the ferry in Holyhead and were continuing their long journey.
The Donegal Town mayor thanked everyone who had donated and helped in any way.
