Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal, Cllr Niamh Kennedy has stressed the importance of keeping focused on community when involved in local politics.
The Killybegs-based councillor was one of a number of women taking part in the SHE See Her Elected conference in the Central Hotel, Donegal Town on Friday.
She spoke about how being an independent councillor allowed her to always vote with her own conscience, adding that she never had to abstain from a vote.
Cllr Kennedy outlined her experiences of entering the political world after being very involved in community groups such as the Parish Council and Tidy Towns.
In our video, she shares her thoughts on the importance of community for anyone who may be considering running in a local election.
