Update: Creeslough gorse fire 'now under control'

A fire at Drimnaraw, on the Kilmacrennan side of Creeslough, was causing concern this afternoon, but local fire services and some rain have quelled the danger.

Firefighters had been battling a gorse fire outside of Creeslough that is "a major cause for concern" with the immediate issue being the safety of people in the locality, which is close to Creeslough, Carrigart, Glen and Glenveagh.

However, the danger has now been averted with no local houses affected.

"This is a very real situation and a major cause for concern," Cllr Michael McClafferty had earlier warned, referring to the video posted by James McCormack on social media. "It's got quite out of hand already and we could be talking hundreds, if not thousands, of acres that could be affected. This is a very, very rural community with houses dotted here and there and the safety of these people is the biggest concern right now."
