As Donegal fever grips the county ahead of the All-Ireland Senior Football Final, local singer-songwriter Paul Kelly has launched a rousing new version of Half Cut Sam - a lively anthem dedicated to the team’s journey to Croke Park glory.
Originally released by Free Whiskey in 2012, the song has been reimagined by Kelly just in time to rally the green and gold faithful. The new version celebrates Donegal’s passion, pride, and footballing spirit, with a music video featuring enthusiastic locals, talented musicians, and spirited Irish dancers.
“As the green and gold surge through our veins this week, I’m absolutely thrilled to release Half Cut Sam—a lively tune for every Donegal heart,” said Kelly in a heartfelt message. “This song is for Jim McGuinness, the mighty management team, the fearless players, and every soul involved in Donegal’s heroic journey to bring Sam home to the hills next Sunday.”
Filmed with the help of the local community, the video shoot saw dogs, dancers, and die-hard supporters all turning out in support. A special mention was given to Anita Maguire, whose video direction helped bring the story to life, and to Brittons Bar in Pettigo, which opened its doors to host the launch.
“I'm genuinely blown away by the support you've all shown me,” Kelly added. “Thank you to every single person who helped make this happen.”
With its infectious energy and deep Donegal pride, Half Cut Sam is set to become the unofficial anthem for fans as the county dreams of bringing Sam Maguire back home.
