Donegal musician Eve Belle is taking part in a four-part TG4 musical documentary series that explores the rich and complex song traditions associated with the 1798 Rebellion.
The west Donegal singer has contributed two songs to Ceol 1798, which combines live performance, evocative landscape, curated archive, expert commentary and historical reflection.
The series re-examines a defining chapter in Irish history through the music it inspired and the stories it continues to carry.
Contemporary songs also allow the audience to see how the ideals and vision of the United Irishmen, inspired by the American and French Revolutions, continue to influence artists some two centuries on.
The series also features Donegal group Onóir and other guests include Stephen Rea, Neil Martin, Ríoghnach Connolly, Steve Cooney and John Spillane and Seán Keane.
The second programme will be broadcast on Sunday, October 25 at 9pm and focus on the rebellion in Dublin, Wexford, and the broader Leinster story.
Describing the series as “a gorgeous show”, Eve Belle, who makes regular appearances on TG4, said: “This is episode 2 of a documentary series that showcases the music of the 1798 Ulster Rebellion. I sang two songs for the show and I had a wonderful time arranging them.”
