Scenic Bunbeg Harbour guesthouse listed on market for €750,000 sale

Property offers 'immense potential for the discerning purchaser'

Scenic Bunbeg Harbour guesthouse listed on market for €750,000 sale

Property occupies a highly scenic location

A former guesthouse on the scenic Harbour Road in Bunbeg has been put up for sale for €750,000.

The Guest House on Harbour Road spans over three floors and comprises 15 ensuite bedrooms, a reception area, a kitchen, and a large bar/restaurant area, all situated on more than 1.1 acres of coastal land.

There is also an extension which has not been completed, giving potential for a further 20 bedrooms.

The harbour serves both fishing boats and pleasure crafts and is also the embarkation point for the Tory Island Ferry.

Developed in the 1830s by the landlord, Lord George Hill, the Harbour and its buildings included a corn mill and general provision stores selling various goods to the Northwest of Ireland, including groceries, hardware and fishing supplies. Supplies were imported directly into the harbour.

The Derry merchants, McKeowns, took over the business in the early 20th century, then the business in turn was taken over in 1922 by a local businessman, TJ McBride, as TJ McBride Ltd.

TJ McBride Ltd operated as a major wholesale and retail operation for all of the Northwest and imported cargoes directly into the Harbour from Europe and the UK. Cargoes included timber, general building supplies, flour and salt.

The Harbour and its buildings were then taken over by Elio Marocco in the 1960s, who commenced to develop the Harbour as a major tourist destination, including a luxury hotel, chalets with yacht and caravan hire.

Despite major development taking place, Morocco did not manage to bring his plans to fruition.

Local businessman Kevin Doherty then assumed ownership of the buildings in the early 1970s.

Selling agents, Sherry Fitzgerald Paul Reynolds, stated: “The property requires complete refurbishment throughout, offering immense potential for the discerning purchaser.

“The land is elevated in aspect with breathtaking coastal views and offers potential for residential development.”
