Donegal for Sam, Kerry for Butter
Kerry GAA supporters have been left feeling a bit irked after a mural appeared on the wall of a Buncrana bar implying that Sam is heading to the Hills of Donegal.
Ahead of the All-Ireland final this Sunday, An Tuath Nua’s famous mural on Buncrana’s upper main street has made its grand return to the bar wall 11 years later. The famous mural that appeared on the outside of the bar in 2014 reads “Donegal for Sam, Kerry for Butter.”
The image designed by local woman Rois Deeney wished “good luck to Jim and boys,” as they aim to slice through the Kerry defence like a hot knife through butter.
Posting on their social media channels, An Tuath Nua stated that the mural is “proudly back up on the bar and looking better than ever.”
“Snap a photo, tag us, and show your appreciation for this masterpiece done by the talented Rois Deeney.”
The west end bar has asked Donegal fans to resist the temptation of the Kerry butter because Donegal is football special. “Hands off the butter — it’s strictly for Kerry, as Sam is ours.”

The mural has now gone viral and has been shared by thousands of people. Kerry Radio shared the image on their social media channels, and while a number of the Kingdom fans found the funny side, it has left a bitter taste for some.
One poster has called on the image to be placed on the wall of the Kerry dressing room. At the same time, another poster questioned the cockiness of Donegal supporters.
Jim McGuiness’s army of supporters will be hoping the mural of 2012, “Donegal for Sam, Mayo for Sandwiches,” brings better luck than it did in 2014 as they look to finish the job and make toast of Kerry.
