In pictures: Inaugural Donegal schools Battle of the Bands

Invitations were extended to every secondary school across the county and 10 schools showcased their talent

The inaugural Donegal Schools Battle of the Bands took place, with St Columba’s Comprehensive winning first place.

St Columba's Comprehensive School, in Glenties, hosted the event, marking an exciting new addition to the school’s musical calendar.

The participants were Dust and Daisies - Pobalscoil na Rosann; The Interlockers - Colaiste na Carraige; Eunan’s - St Eunan's; Fuinneamh - Colaiste Ailigh; Emergency Exit - Glenties Comprehensive; Autumn Olympics - Royal and Prior; Ocean Bound - Loreto Milford; and Brailer - St Catherine's Killybegs.

Each band performed two contrasting songs, with the audience treated to a wide variety of styles - from rock and pop to traditional Irish music. Three experienced judges from around the county provided detailed and constructive feedback to every group before selecting an overall winner. After much deliberation, the title of inaugural champions was awarded to Emergency Exit.

Such was the quality of the performances that the judges were eager to recognise two additional bands: Ocean Bound from Loreto Community School, Milford, and Eunan’s from St Eunan's College, Letterkenny. In response, organisers decided to allocate all proceeds from the door to these two bands as well. It is hoped that the funding will be used to enhance their equipment and PA systems, supporting their continued growth and development.

Following the success of this outstanding first event, plans are already underway to build on its momentum in the years ahead.
