The event began with a blessing of the boats by Archdeacon Ven. David Huss.
Also present was Mayor of Donegal Town Anna Gallagher, who said: “It is so special to be here in the natural surroundings that we all enjoy.
“It is always a joy when I am out walking or going around the town to hear the beat of the [dragon boat] drum, the sound of laughter, the sound of community coming together to enjoy what is naturally ours and God-given.
“It is lovely to have such a good turnout here today. I wish continued success to both clubs and everybody that uses this beautiful amenity.”
The bay and pier area was a hive of activity throughout the evening, with highlights including a visit from Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat Station who chatted to club members and shared the celebrations.
Both clubs were thrilled with the turnout and with the experience of sharing their activities.
As the sun dipped in the evening sky, tents were lowered, chairs put away, and boats were tied up safely. Before saying goodbye, those present vowed that there would be many more such days of coming together simply for the pleasure of enjoying and celebrating the sports of rowing and dragon boating in the beautiful setting of Donegal Bay.
