Dungloe is the place to be this Easter Sunday

Dungloe is set to host a competitive Easter band parade this Sunday.

The annual parade will see bands gather from all over the county. All bands participating in the parade have been asked to gather at St Crona’s car park, Chapel Road at 2:30pm. The parade will kick off at 3pm and will be competition-style.

All bands interested in participating are asked to forward their name and category. All competing bands are asked to submit the list of songs they are playing in advance.

This has been an eagerly anticipated event, especially in light of Dungloe having no St Patrick’s Day parade this year. Easter celebrations in Dungloe see numerous marching bands all take to Main Street to compete as the area has a strong tradition of marching bands.

Directly after the parade, the Dungloe band will play Amhrán na bhFiann. Then, any band wishing to play, but not compete, can do so at this stage. Following this, the competition will take place where the marching bands are in with a chance of winning a trophy for their performance.

“To ensure the parade runs smoothly, bands will go down the main street, turn at the old fire station, and go back up without stopping at the lorry and disband at The Ionad,” Dungloe Easter Sunday shared. We would be grateful for your cooperation on the day to ensure an enjoyable day for all, full of music and tradition.”

That’s not all though, as there is an array of live music scheduled for the day. Bridge Inn are hosting local musician Danny O’Donnell with his rebel set after the band parade.

Additionally, Dungloe is set to host the county’s Fleadh Cheoil from May 10-12 this year.
