Irish social media users expressed their ire online following a monologue by Seth Meyers

'Shockingly bad comedy' - Anger as US comedian dons Irish accent for joke about Simon Harris

A US talk show has mentioned new Taoiseach Simon Harris in a joke about Trump and Biden.

During a political monologue on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host talked about Harris being elected as the country's "youngest ever new prime minister" and poked fun at former president Trump (77) and President Biden's (81) lack of technological know-how.

He said, "The Irish parliament today confirmed the country's youngest ever new prime minister. So whoever wins here in November, they will be asking you for help with the wi-fi."

Meyers then attempted an Irish accent and said, "Have you tried unplugging the router? It's often the router!"

Many Irish viewers were less than impressed with the joke - which they believed to be directed at Ireland rather than the American presidents - with some taking to social media to voice their ire.

One TikTok user commented, "Another stupid attempt at doing an Irish accent," while another stated, "Most unfunniest man ever."

Irish author Catherine Prasifka also gave her two cents on TikTok, stating: "I love when Americans talk about Irish politics. Especially when the joke is how funny our voices are. Oh and it's the Dáil and the Taoiseach."

Others offered their own comments under her video on the matter, with one TikTok user writing, "Would it kill them to just leave us alone?" while another commented, "That's shockingly bad comedy."

However, not everyone took the joke as seriously.

One TikTok user commented, "Why's everyone so grumpy over a joke?" while another wrote, "You must be fun at parties."
