Lauren Callaghan has set a new Donegal long jump record
Lauren Callaghan set a new Donegal long jump record in France on Saturday.
The Finn Valley AC woman jumped out to 6.25m at Meeting Nikaia in Nice.
Callaghan was second behind the winner, Alysbeth Felix Boyer from Puerto Rica, who got out to 6.35m.
Last year, Callaghan jumped out to 6.15m for silver at the National Senior Championships.
The 23-year-old won the National Indoors earlier this year and has a best of 6.24m indoors.
Callaghan’s Finn Valley AC colleague John Kelly returned to the shot put circle again in recent days.
Kelly, who competed in the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, has thrown beyond 18m on two occasions since returning to action.
On Thursday, he improved a season opening 18.12m in Skruv when reaching out to 18.25 in Villstad.
Stateside, meanwhile, Finn Valley AC pair Sophia Thompson and Cara Laverty were both in action in big championship action at the weekend.

Thompson, a pupil at Union Catholic High School clocked a new 800m PB, going 2:08.99 at the NJSIAA Group Championships held at Stockton University in New Jersey. Thompson was third in her race and goes now to the State Championships.
At the NCAA first round at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Providence College scholar Laverty clocked 4:19.39 over 1500m.
