The event was first run in 2023 to remember Joe Carlin and Andy Scanlon and is organised by friends and family to support youth development at local clubs, which the pair were heavily involved in.

Curragh Athletic Football Club, Markievicz Camogie Club, Red Hughs GAA, Setanta Hurling Club, and the Three Rivers Badminton Club, Killygordon were the beneficiaries of the Run/Walk.

Andrew (Andy) Scanlon passed away in December 2020 at the age of 56, and Joe Carlin died in September 2021, aged 54.

The two neighbours and lifelong friends were well known competitors in local and national athletics circles, and have been fondly remembered through the 5k, which is organised by their respective families in their memory.

Bryan McNamee from Convoy was the overall winner, clocking 17:44 through the 5k marker to finish in front of Caolan Gillespie.

Colette McKelvey was the leading woman, going through 5k in 23:59 ahead of Caitlin Gillespie, Kate Browne and Ellen Rose Carlin.
