US-based Finn Valley AC athlete Cara Laverty
Cara Laverty earned a silver medal at the New England Indoor Championships on Saturday.
The Finn Valley AC athlete clocked a new personal best to earn silver in the 1000m.
At the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Laverty finished in 2:47.05 in a race won by Lily Saul from Rhode Island in 2:44.12.
Laverty, a scholarship student at Providence College, had won her heat in 2:57.48.
The previous weekend, Laverty won individual and team gold at the Big East Championships in Chicago, taking one mile bronze and relay gold.
In Slovakia, Leah O’Gara, also of Finn Valley AC, was fourth in a 5k race walk.

Competing at the Dudinska 50 in Dudinsk, O’Gara finished in a time of 25:47.
The race was won by Sara Kata Alfoldi of Hungary (24:10) ahead of Hanna Chodur from Poland (24:51) and Croatian Lucija Saracevic (25:28).
