Jason Quigley in New York with Team Sherry
Jason Quigley has joined English super-middleweight Hamzah Sheeraz in New York ahead of his clash with Edgar Berlanga on Saturday.
Quigley fought Berlanga in 2023 and is part of Sheeraz’s team for the Big Apple bout.
The Ballybofey man exposed some frailties in Berlanga’s armour two years ago when taking the Puerto Rican to the 12th round and the judges’ scorecards.
In an impressive sixth round, Quigley shook Berlanga and carried that momentum into the seventh round. A smart defence and a neat jab from Quigley posed plenty of issues for Berlanga, who took a unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden.
Sheeraz (21-0-1) changed trainer earlier this year and is now working with Andy Lee, who cornered Quigley for his 2023 fight with Berlanga.
The 26-year-old Sheeraz has won 17 times inside the distance and is scheduled for 12 rounds with Berlanga on a Golden Boy Promotions show at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens.
The fight is on the undercard of the WBC world lightweight title showdown between Shaker Stevenson and William Segura.
Lee, who trained Quigley from 2019, also has Joseph Parker, Ben Whittaker and Paddy Donovan in an impressive stable.

Sheeraz shared a draw with Carlos Adames in Riyadh in February at middleweight, but steps up to super-middleweight to dance with Berlanga, who stopped Belfast man Pody McCrory in the sixth round in February 2024 before losing to Canelo Alvarez in September 2024.
Sheeraz was trained by US-based Ricky Funez until he linked up with Lee, the former WBO middleweight champion.
