Cahir Gormley celebrates his win in the United States earlier this year
Illies Golden Gloves boxer Cahir Gormley has received a boxing scholarship from the Irish Boxing Club in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA.
The light-middleweight fighter impressed in the States over the summer, as he was named ‘Fighter of the Night’ as he overcame Andre Mendez in Dover, Pennsylvania in June.
He also defeated Demetress Wilson in Scranton previously.
Gormley was crowned a National Intermediate Champion late last year, defeating Brian Morgan via a 3-2 split decision in the 71kg final.

He then reached the semi-final of the National Elite Competition in Belfast earlier this year, losing out to Eugene McKeever.
Gormley will graduate from the North West Regional College with a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Fitness at the 2025 Higher Education and Access Graduation ceremony at the Millennium Forum on October 30.
