The late Peter O’Donnell right with a group including Jude Gallagher
Irish Olympian Jude Gallagher dedicated a gold medal at the Tammer Tournament in Finland to Donegal’s late ‘Mr Boxing’, Peter O’Donnell.
Gallagher, who boxes out of the Two Castles BC in Newtownstewart, won the lightweight title in Tampere at the weekend.
The 24-year-old defeated Italy’s Giuseppe Canonico via a unanimous decision in his semi-final.
Gallagher followed up by decisioning Ruamtham Sakda from Thailand in the final.
After his victory, Gallagher shared a post on Instagram, saying: “That’s for you Pete”.
Last summer, O’Donnell - who passed away following an illness last month - travelled to Paris to support Gallagher at the 2024 Olympic Games.
A close friend of the Gallagher family, O’Donnell watched from ringside as the Tyrone Tornado lost out to Carlo Paalam in his flyweight opener.
After an injury layoff, Gallagher returned to action in October with a win over Joe Turner in Belfast.

Gallagher was among a huge who’s who of Irish boxing personalities who turned out for O’Donnell’s funeral in Raphoe on October 22.
