Donegal and Antrim boxers in Belfast
A Donegal boxing team beat their County Antrim counterparts in a Boy and Girl 1, 2, 3 inter-county tournament on Saturday.
The County Donegal Boxing Board representatives had a slender 11-10 win when the sums were totalled at the end of an exciting day at the Corpus Christi BC in Belfast.
Conor Glackin, Keelan Kearney, Darragh McGonigle and Rowen Doherty from St Bridget’s in Clonmany all recorded wins.
Kearney, fresh from a multi-nations win the previous weekend, defeated Patrick Bradley from Rathfriland in a Boy 1 48kgs contest.
Glackin overcame Connolly O’Neill in a Boy 1 42kgs clash and Doherty had the measure of Anthony Considine at Boy 3 46kgs.
McGonigle, in a Boy 2 48kgs bout, overcame Immaculata puncher Mason Donaghy.
Raphoe BC pair Harry Magee and Blake Stevenson had wins over Bobby Webb (St Agnes) and Cael Mullen (Star) at Boy 3 54kgs and Boy 2 57kgs respectively.
Illies Golden Gloves’ Cassie Lynch and Dungloe BC’s Lena O’Donnell were victorious in clashes with Ellie Burke of Phoenix and All Saints’ Eireann McGrath, while Ethan Kearns from Letterkenny BC had a fine UD win over Michael Kelly from Immaculata.
O’Donnell’s club-mate Dylan Sword was among the winners as he saw off Taylor Gray from Canal.
Dunfanaghy BC’s Conor McFadden had a decision win over Connri McCusker from the Holy Trinity stable in Belfast.
