Alesha Mullis Boyle bows out in European U17 quarter-finals

Alesha Mullis Boyle bowed out of the European U17 Championships on Sunday morning.

The Dungloe Boxing Club puncher lost out to Kateryna Moroz from Ukraine in a 66kgs quarter-final.

Moroz stopped Mullis Boyle in the opening round of their clash in Kienbaum, Germany.

Despite a valiant display, Mullis Boyle took her third count of the round with about 20 seconds remaining when referee Ivans Lisenko from Latvia waved it off.

Mullis Boyle is part of a 23-strong Irish team for the inaugural World Boxing confederation-level championships for such boxers.

Mullis Boyle won the Irish U17 66kgs final when beating Grace Bailey of Castlebar at the National Stadium.

Earlier in the year, she defeated Ella Leonard in two finals to take the Youth 1 and Senior Cadet 66kgs titles.

She was the winner of the Johnny McDaid Award for the best overall female at the County Donegal Boxing Board Awards in September.

Mullis Boyle also took victory at the World of Havoc Tournament in Orlando, Florida, beating Summer Jackson to take a gold medal,
