Twin Towns Boxing Club's Roisin Hegarty
Donegal’s European champion Roisin Hegarty features in a new video, narrated by Liam Neeson, announcing the rebranding of the IABA to Boxing Ireland.
The video, billed as a “keynote identity piece”, was unveiled by Irish boxing chiefs and also features double Olympic gold medallist Kellie Harrington, international boxer James Whelan and European champion Kristian Jubani.
Neeson, a multi-award winning actor and Hollywood star, was a champion boxer in his youth, contesting for All Saints ABC in Ballymena.
Twin Towns Boxing Club lightweight ace Hegarty features in a piece of Irish boxing history.
Last year, Hegarty won European U15 gold in Montenegro.
The Letterkenny teenager defeated Ukrainian opponent Tetiana Zvenihorodska and became the first Donegal female to win a European gold in the process, taking the 63kgs crown.
After returning from her heroics, Hegarty won solver at the Athy Box Cup, pipped by Sinead O’Doherty in the Girl 2 63kgs final, having beaten Ashling Greene from Dealgan BC at the Twin Towns BC tournament in Ballybofey.
Of the rebrand of the IABA to Boxing Ireland, CEO Gary Stewart said: “Boxing Ireland is a brand built to honour the past, empower the present and really put our purpose as a community front and centre.
“It gives us a clearer, stronger and more recognisable identity, both at home and internationally, which is essential for increasing awareness of Irish boxing and the incredible talent within our community. Boxing builds people for life. The new identity says unequivocally that we are Boxing Ireland, and we’re proud of it.”
