Cahir Gormley celebrates after his win

Former Illies Golden Gloves boxer Cahir Gormley recorded his latest win in the pro ranks in the United States.

Gormley took just over two minutes to stop Dominicque McBride in Allentown, Pennsylvania on Good Friday.

The bout was waved off after just two minutes and four seconds, moving Gormley to 2-0 as a professional.

The Boxfest XVII card was shown live on DAZN with Abraham Montoya overcoming prospect Antonio Perez to win the vacant WBC USA silver lightweight title in the headline bout.

Gormley, who hails from Derry, boxed several fights in America at amateur level after linking in with Douglas Long in Pennsylvania and subsequently ditched the vest and signed up with Long Productions and The Rosado Group.

Gormley defeated Elias Aquwa on his pro debut last month in the Sixth Man Center in Philadelphia, claiming a unanimous decision after four rounds.

The light-middleweight hails from Tamnaherin in Derry and with Illies won an Irish Senior title in 2025, defeating Brian Morgan in the 71kgs final.

Gormley competed at the National Elite Competition in Belfast in 2025, losing out in a semi-final to Eugene McKeever having stopped Darragh Gilroy in his opening bout.

In the record books, he is the 29th professional from these parts, following in the footsteps of fellow Derry native and ex-Illies Golden Gloves amateur Tyrone McCullagh, who was 14-2 as a pro between 2015 and 2021.
