St Bridget’s, Clonmany boxer Leah McGonigle has booked her place in an Irish Girl 1 final.

McGonigle overcame Shannon Kenny from Charlestown in her Girl 1 37kgs semi-final on Wednesday.

The Inishowen puncher earned a unanimous decision from the judges at ringside.

McGonigle will now square up to Priya Clifford from Kilmyshall in Friday’s final after Clifford defeated Kiah Elwood (Canal) via a 4-1 split decision in her semi-final.

There was no joy for Carndonagh Boxing Club’s Poppy Doherty in a Girl 1 41kgs semi-final. Doherty lost out on a unanimous decision to Ceilidh May Cassidy from the St Mary’s BC in Dublin.

Letterkenny BC’s Martin McCarthy fell on a narrow split decision to Ballymore’s Jack Cullen in a Boy 2 semi-final at 46kgs while his Letterkenny BC colleague Pearse McKinney lost out to Tadgh Browne Doyle (Top End) in a Boy 3 59kgs quarter-final.

Fionnan Breathnach (Annagry) and Conor Glackin (St Bridget’s, Clonmany) exited after defeats in Boy 1 35kgs and Boy 2 44.5kgs quarter-finals to Arthur Noonan (Charleville) and Martin Ward (Olympic).
