Event took place to celebrate ten years of Bundoran Community Centre at former AIB Bank on August 22

The Bundoran Community Centre celebrated a decade of service to the local community, welcoming a Minister of State and several Bundoran-based councillors, both past and present, to a celebratory event.

Local TD to the Bundoran area, and Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, Frank Feighan, was present at the event.

An online post said: “We celebrated 10 years of Bundoran Community Centre at the former AIB Bank on Saturday (August 22). It was great to bring together all 10 founding members, volunteers, board members, staff members past and present, tutors, participants and the wider community.

“We were delighted to welcome Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Gary Doherty, Minister of State, Frank Feighan, Councillor Michael McMahon and a number of former Bundoran Town Councillors who gifted a legacy donation to purchase the building back in 2016.

“It was the perfect way to honour a decade of the transformation of this former financial institution into the heart and soul of the local community, securing a permanent home for the town's social and community needs.

“Over the last decade, the Bundoran Community Centre has retained its historic facade and character, including the bank vaults where the Magh Éne Historical Society Museum is housed, while adding essential facilities to access services, remote coworking spaces, a sensory room, Counselling rooms and much more.

“It was important to acknowledge the countless voluntary hours and years dedicated to providing support services to young and old, to create a safe and welcoming space for leisure, learning, social interaction, wellbeing, refuge, creativity, music and fun whilst providing vital local employment through the Community Services Programme and employment activation schemes.

“Thank you to everyone who joined in the celebrations and to those who sent good wishes but could not attend. Many people made this day special. Thanks to Comfort Kitchen for the sandwiches, to Market Square Balloons for our personalised balloons and to all the dedicated staff, board and other volunteers who made this event possible.

“Here's to the next 10!”
