Donegal County Council receives planning application concerning Doonan Lodge in Donegal Town
Planning permission has been sought to demolish an “outdated” Donegal Town self-catering hostel for the construction of 14 three-bed townhouses, in which the continuation of the business is now considered “no longer economically viable.”
The listed applicant, Linda Cunningham, has submitted the planning application to Donegal County Council concerning Doonan Lodge, on the N56 near Four Masters GAA’s Páirc Tir Conaill.
Cornerstone Associates, on behalf of the applicant, stated in support documents: “The existing hostel is outdated and requires substantial upgrading and refurbishment works to meet current building, fire safety and energy efficiency standards.
“Having considered the extent and cost of these works, our client has determined that the continued operation of the hostel is no longer economically viable.
“The proposed development represents an opportunity to regenerate an existing developed site and provide much-needed residential accommodation in an area experiencing continued demand for housing.
“The proposal will make efficient use of the existing lands, providing modern, energy-efficient homes while enhancing the overall appearance and character of the site and surrounding area.
“It is considered that the development supports the principles of sustainable residential development, compact growth and the efficient use of land, as promoted under national and local planning policy.”
Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the submitted planning application for December 15.
